Q: What are the Medela® Nipple Shields made from?
A:  They are made from 100% ultra-thin soft silicone and all materials used in the manufacturing process are BPA and DEHP free.

Q: Can nipple shields in general damage nipples?
A: A nipple shield that is too tight or incorrectly sized that is placed on a mom's nipple can cause possible damage. A nipple shield that is too large for the baby to latch on properly will result in the baby getting little to no milk during breastfeeding. You should avoid using any nipple shield that is the incorrect size.

Q: Can I permanently use nipple shields?
A: A nipple shield is usually meant to be temporary and only used for a short time. If the baby is premature, it may take longer use of these nipple shields until the baby has developed to an adequate size. After using the Medela® Nipple Shields, your baby will probably be able to breastfeed without them. But as long as your baby is breastfeeding properly and gaining weight using the nipple shield, you can continue using them.
