Q: Which Ameda® breast pump kit parts can be sanitized with the Ameda® CleanEase Microwaveable Steam Sanitization Bags?
A: Breast pump kit parts such as flanges, flange adapters, diaphragm, valves, and other microwaveable plastic and silicone products.

Q: What items are not fit for sanitization in the Ameda® CleanEase Microwaveable Steam Sanitization Bags?
A: You will not use the bags to clean the breast pump kit parts such as tubing, tubing adapters, and caps. DO NOT microwave tubing, metal items or any other items that are designated to be not safe for microwaves. The microwave manufacturer’s instructions should be a useful guide to understand the Do's and Don’ts when using this. Please exercise necessary caution.

Q: What are the Ameda® CleanEase Microwaveable Steam Sanitization Bags made of?
A: They are made of food-grade Polypropylene and do not present any form of  health hazard. Polypropylene’s high melting point makes it suitable for microwavable food containers and is nonvolatile. This makes it perfect to store a wide variety of foods including breastmilk. Ameda® CleanEase bags are also BPA-free for peace of mind.

Q: How many times can I use a single Ameda® CleanEase Microwaveable Steam Sanitization Bag consecutively?
A: Up to 20 times per bag. It is recommended not to use the bag more than 20 times for optimal results and to avoid any potential damage to the bag and possible leakage due to overuse.

Q: How long should I microwave to sanitize using the Ameda® CleanEase Microwaveable Steam Sanitization Bags?
A: It varies based on your microwave’s wattage power output. 

Microwaveable time recommendations are as follows:

Greater than >1100W = 1.5 minutes

Between 800-1100W = 3 minutes

Between 600-750W = 5 minutes

Q: What precautions should I take while using the Ameda® CleanEase Microwaveable Steam Sanitization Bags? How do I properly use these bags?
A: The major risk with steam bags is scalding and possible burns. Whoever handles the bag  should be very careful when removing it from the microwave.

The following recommendations should be followed when using the Ameda® CleanEase steam bag:

1. Practice caution when removing the bag from the microwave after heating as steam and content inside the bag can be extremely hot.


2. Do not use the bag to sanitize metal and similar items other than what’s mentioned and recommended in the product manual.


3. When sanitizing breast pump parts, always fill the bag with about 60mL (2oz) distilled water.


4. Ameda® CleanEase steam bags are not designed to be used in conventional ovens, only with microwaves.


5. Avoid placing the bag directly on steel or metallic grills when in use.


6. Follow your microwave oven’s manual  for proper usage of this product and please do not forget to refer to wattage vs time measurements..

Before Every Use:

Always make sure that your hands have been thoroughly washed before using either the Ameda® HygieniKit Milk Collection System or any other Ameda® products.

Remove and separate the adapter cap, tubing, and tubing adapter from the breast pump parts.

Properly clean the pump parts first and make sure to remove all milk residuals. Reason for this being old milk residue can be heated and cooked onto the parts, providing a medium for bacterial growth.

After Every Use:

Please inspect and check pump kit parts for cracks, chips, tears, or deformation before and after the sanitizing.

Q: What is the steam vent/drain spout for?
A: Located on the right, upper corner of the bag, this vent allows for hot steam to release and escape. After every use, remember to drain the bag properly by pouring out any remaining hot water before drying and storing. The bag is clearly marked with a “CAUTION” label to avoid any burns to the user handling the bag.
