Spectra® Backflow Protector For S2, S1, S9, M1 Breast Pumps

The Spectra® Backflow Protector is an essential accessory for all Spectra® breast pumps.

This Spectra® pump part is innovative in design and ensures that your milk is protected from backflow, keeping it hygienic and safe.

The physical barrier between the pump motor and your milk also helps to maintain breast pump efficiency and performance. The backflow protector is suitable for use with the Spectra® S1, S2, 9 Plus, and M1 breast pumps.

Please note that the backflow protectors are sold individually, so please add 2 to your cart if you'll be double pumping. These backflow protectors should be changed every 6 months, or when damage to the silicone diaphragm is observed on the inside of the protector.

Q: Can you use a Spectra® breast pump without a backflow protector?
A: Yes it is possible but we do NOT recommend this.. If you breast pump without the Spectra® backflow protectors, you can risk breast milk getting into the tubing and the pump motor, which could result in bacteria and mold growth and even pump damage. You may also end up voiding your Spectra® breast pump warranty if you use it without a backflow protector.

Q: Which parts of a Spectra® breast pump need replacing?
A: Consider replacing the breastshields, tubing and all accessible silicone parts every 6 months or so to ensure optimal pumping performance. Investigate your breast pump parts for buildup of residue in cracks and crevices as well. This applies to discoloration as well as this could be a bacterial buildup if you are unable to remove this through conventional cleaning.

Q: Does the Spectra® backflow protector touch the breast milk?
A: When used correctly and as per manufacturer instruction, the backflow protector stops milk from entering the tubing. If the breast milk should somehow enter the tubing, we recommend replacing the tubing altogether. If tubing should become wet, make sure it is completely dry before pumping so as not to possibly damage the breast pump motor.

Q: Do you have to wash the Spectra® backflow protectors every time after use?
A:No it isn’t necessary. We do recommend that periodically, the backflow protector and membranes are taken apart and placed on a clean surface. This allows any moisture or condensation buildup to air dry properly.
