Q: Why are 3M™ Silvercel™ Dressings non-adherent?
A: Adherence of the dressing to the wound has been identified as the most important factor contributing to pain at dressing change. In addition to pain, dressing adherence may cause damage to the wound bed and have a detrimental effect on the healing process.

Q: How often should I change the 3M™ Silvercel™ Dressings?
A: Approximately every 5-7 days unless the bandage leaks.

Dressing Preparation

1. Cut (using clean scissors) SILVERCEL™ NON-ADHERENT Dressing or fold the dressing to fit the wound.


2. Ensure SILVERCEL™ NON-ADHERENT Dressing does not overlap the wound margins.

1. Gently apply SILVERCEL™ NONADHERENT Dressing to the wound.


2. Loosely pack deep wounds. As wound conditions improve and exudate levels decrease, moisten the wound bed with normal saline solution prior to application.

1. Cover SILVERCEL™ NON-ADHERENT Dressing with a secondary dressing such as one from the KERRAFOAM™ Dressings. Choose the secondary dressing based on the level of exudate.


2. Apply any secondary cover or retention / compression bandage.

1. Gently remove the dressing from the wound bed and discard. If the wound appears dry, saturate the dressing with sterile saline solution prior to removal.


2. Dressing change frequency will depend on wound condition and the level of exudate. Reapply SILVERCEL™ NON-ADHERENT Dressing when the secondary dressing has reached its absorbent capacity or according to good wound care practice.
